Coke and Ginger Remedy

Feeling unwell? I know that feeling. This is just a quick post about how I am dealing with my flu, flu (otherwise known as influenza) is stressful as it affects your daily life if not treated immediately and it tends to last 3-5 (sometimes 7) days.

Having drinking lemon and honey as a home-made remedy for sore throats is a cheap but effective method to treat a short term cough, as honey is a demulcent which coats the throat and helps relieves the irritation that cause the coughing. But what if the cough is more ‘long term’ and more painful? Rather than relying entirely on cough medicine, I decided to use the ancient Chinese method – Coke and Ginger. This means boiling the coke with ginger. People recommend using ‘old ginger’ for the extra kick however, feel free to use ‘young ginger’ if you dislike the spiciness.

Preparation items:

1x can of coke (coca cola)

5-6 slices of ginger (thickness is up to you however I’ve sliced mine to 2-3cm)

A timer if you are not good at checking the time

A few slices of lemon

Instructions:

  1. Pour the can of coke in the pan and the sliced ginger together
  2. Allow it to simmer for around 10 minutes.
  3. Feel free to add the slices of lemon with the coke and ginger but add it later if you prefer

It really is that simple. This recipe is never a scientifically proven method, however it has been used by the Chinese as an ‘Ancient Chinese Remedy. But my verdict is it’s helped clear my sinus and throat in a quick manner and it helped clear the mucus in my throat. I am very prone to having my nose blocked when I feel unwell and it’s helped clear my nose which I believe many will find useful to know. Although the coke is flat, do remember it contains ‘advanced glycation-end products (AGEs) which contributes to aging and it also contains around 10 sugar cubes per can, so advice will be to take into consideration when making your ‘Coke and Ginger’ remedy and not to overdrink. Ginger also contains an active ingredient which helps to fight infections, gingerol, the bioactive stance in fresh ginger helps to lower the risk of infections. It is not an overnight miracle remedy and having adequate rest and plenty of water will help flush out the germs and stress inside the body. The hand sanitation gels and antibacterial wet wipes is also useful for those who need to work in a busy environment and.. tissues!! I prefer the menthol tissues as it helps clear my blocked nose when I sneeze.Boiling Coke and Lemon

Unique idea! It definitely is a new one, but perhaps an even better option than the orthadox honey and lemon method. Love it, thanks for sharing.
