Peak Edge launches farm-to-fork afternoon tea in the Peak District

Peak Edge Hotel has launched two new afternoon tea experiences built around produce from its own 320-acre farm in the Peak District.

The Derbyshire hotel, which was recently added to the Michelin Guide, is offering guests a choice between a traditional Classic Afternoon Tea and a more unusual Savoury Afternoon Tea. Both are priced at £30 per person and put local produce and Peak District provenance at the centre of the experience.

Located near Chesterfield, Peak Edge sits less than a mile from Walton Lodge Farm Estate, the 320-acre Red Tractor-certified farm owned by hotel founder Steve Perez. The estate is home to Belted Galloway cattle, Berkshire pigs, Dorset sheep, free-range hens and beehives, giving the hotel an unusually direct connection between its kitchen and the land producing some of its ingredients.

A classic afternoon tea with a Derbyshire connection

The Classic Afternoon Tea sticks relatively closely to the traditional format, but gives it a distinctly local spin.

The savoury course includes a Walton Lodge sausage roll, Gruyère quiche, Walton Lodge ham salad sandwich, smoked salmon with lemon and black pepper mascarpone, and an egg mayonnaise and watercress sandwich.

The sweet selection includes raspberry choux bun, grapefruit posset, carrot cake, Bakewell blondie, pavlova and lemon curd meringue tart.

As expected, there are freshly baked fruit and plain scones too, served with jam, Derbyshire clotted cream and butter.

It is the sort of afternoon tea that will appeal to anyone after the familiar combination of sandwiches, cakes and scones, while the farm-sourced ingredients give it a stronger sense of place than a generic hotel afternoon tea.

The savoury alternative

For those who would happily swap a tower of cakes for something more substantial, Peak Edge has gone considerably further with its Savoury Afternoon Tea.

The menu includes a fish finger sandwich on toasted turmeric bread with sauce gribiche and crushed pea velouté, Walton Lodge pork, apple and sage sausage roll, minted Walton Lodge lamb kofta with pickled chilli and raita, and a haggis and black pudding Scotch egg.

There is also a mini Yorkshire pudding with Walton Lodge beef and creamed horseradish, a mini Walton Lodge burger with smoked cheddar and pickled shallots, and a Stilton and walnut scone.

The final course is where things get particularly playful. Rather than abandoning dessert altogether, the savoury tea finishes with pizza fritta served with dark chocolate ganache and freeze-dried raspberries, followed by a sugar-battered Mars Bar with toffee honeycomb.

Both menus come with a choice of speciality loose-leaf teas or coffee from Chesterfield-based Northern Tea Merchants. Tea options range from English Breakfast, Earl Grey and Darjeeling to Gunpowder Green Tea, Moroccan Mint and Lemon and Ginger.

For a more celebratory afternoon, guests can add Prosecco, Champagne or English sparkling wine, while cocktails include a French 75, Elderflower Spritz, Champagne Cocktail and Peak Alexander.

A new reason to visit Peak Edge

The afternoon teas arrive during a notable year for Peak Edge. The hotel was recently added to the Michelin Guide, joining the group of Derbyshire restaurants and hotels recognised by the guide.

Its Red Lion Restaurant also holds two AA Rosettes, while Peak Edge won gold in Hotel of the Year and silver in Restaurant of the Year at the Visit Peak District, Derbyshire & Tourism Awards. It subsequently picked up silver at the Hotel of the Year finals at the 2026 VisitEngland Awards.

For the hotel, the afternoon teas are another way of putting its relationship with Walton Lodge Farm Estate front and centre.

And that farm-to-fork connection is arguably the most interesting part. Rather than simply adding another afternoon tea to the hotel menu, Peak Edge is using ingredients produced practically on its doorstep to give the experience a stronger connection to the Derbyshire countryside surrounding it.
