Falls by Orry Shand Opens Near Banchory with a 15-Course Scottish Tasting Menu

One of Scotland’s most talked-about restaurant openings of 2026 has arrived in Royal Deeside, with chef Orry Shand opening his first independent restaurant at Bridge of Feugh near Banchory in Aberdeenshire.

Falls by Orry Shand marks the next step for Shand, Scotland’s former National Chef of the Year and winner of the 2026 Great British Menu banquet. Set beside the River Feugh, the restaurant takes its name and much of its inspiration from the surrounding landscape.

The focus is firmly on Scotland, with Royal Deeside produce at the centre of a seasonal tasting menu that combines Scottish ingredients with Nordic influences and classical French techniques.

A tasting menu without a menu

Falls offers a set multi-course experience featuring between 12 and 15 servings, with no menu presented to guests on the night.

Instead, diners are taken through a sequence of dishes created around the best ingredients available at the time. It is an approach that gives Shand considerable freedom to respond to the seasons and the produce coming into the kitchen.

Among the ingredients expected to feature are lobster landed by day boat at Aberdeen Harbour, Peterhead monkfish and Perthshire Highland Wagyu beef.

The format is deliberately unhurried, with guests advised to allow around three to four hours for the full dining experience.

A small restaurant in a dramatic setting

The restaurant is located at Bridge of Feugh, around 20 miles from Aberdeen, in an area known for its dramatic scenery and natural beauty.

With a maximum capacity of just 30 guests, Falls is an intimate operation, with two sittings available four evenings a week, from Wednesday to Saturday.

The first sitting begins at 5.45pm, followed by a second at 8pm.

For Shand, getting the restaurant open has been a significant project. Speaking about the launch, he said:

“We’re absolutely delighted to finally get the doors open to Falls, which has been a momentous achievement for the whole team.”

He added that the building had been transformed in just six months and that the team was looking forward to welcoming its first guests.
